St. Joseph Parish
VBA completed programming, master plan preparation, and full design and construction administration services for the First Phase of the renovation of a Roman Catholic Church, Parish Center (former Convent), Rectory, and School complex in Astoria Queens. This award-winning project included a newly updated liturgical setting, expanded worship space and improved access. The renovation, repair and expansion addressed such issues as a new gathering area, barrier free entrances, new side aisles, as well as improvements in decorative finishes, lighting, acoustical, mechanical and electrical systems. The size and location of this complex, which covers half a city block, has assured that these design changes have had a strong impact on the neighborhood and add significantly to amenities available to the community. The project received a New York State AIA Award.
