Williamsburgh Library
The Williamsburgh Library is one of many ‘Carnegie Libraries’ in NYC and was the largest of its kind in Brooklyn at the time of its opening in 1903. This award winning renovation & restoration project took aim at revitalizing the character of the original 26,000 s.f. Carnegie Library. Many elements of the interior were restored including areas of wood wainscot, central fireplaces and the metal book stacks at the mezzanine. New interior elements included an elevator for accessibility and a new central circulation desk. New wood paneling, trim and shelving completed the interior renovation. The Library now offers an attractive meeting room seating 74 persons that can be utilized for various community events; computers for children and adults and a connection to the Internet; it was the first wireless branch library in Brooklyn. The exterior now has a new decorative grille and entry door with a new bluestone entry plaza, both sensitive to the original design.
